New Jersey Republican voters have a major dilemma this fall: who to vote for in the race for US Senator from New Jersey. On June 4, Republican voters nominated a candidate for the GOP who they don't really want and who will not represent the vast number of residents of our state. The top two choices on the Republican ballot were 1) Christine Serrano Glassner, a Trump-endorsed mayor of Mendham, NJ, and 2) real estate developer and never-Trumper Curtis Bashaw. Some voters found it easy or convenient to vote for Bashaw because of his position on the ballot just below Donald Trump. And although Trump had endorsed Glassner, word about his endorsement was not as widely known as it could have been and should have been. One of the vast differences between the two candidates which accounted partially for Bashaw's victory is financing. Bashaw had a war chest of over $1 million compared to Glassner's roughly $400 thousand. Sadly, Mr. Bashaw launched a mailer smear campaign against his opponent only a few days before the Primary, giving her precious little time to respond effectively. Different, too, is their place on the political spectrum. Whereas Glassner is Trump-endorsed and worthy of any Republican's vote, Bashaw is at best a RINO Republican. Consider that Bashaw is historically a "never Trumper" and has a record of contributing to several liberal Democratic campaigns in the state, including that of ultra-liberal US Senator Cory Booker. What candidate is honestly worthy of a GOP voter's vote who is a known contributor to liberal Democrats? Another major difference is with regard to morality and social issues. Though many voters were unaware of it, Bashaw is openly gay and married to another man. This should be reason enough for voters to REJECT Bashaw in the fall election. Conservatives, Trump supporters, and mainline GOP voters should be utterly repulsed by the prospect of being "represented" by this individual. On the eve of his election victory, during a video interview, Bashaw glowingly spoke of being the first openly gay Senate candidate from New Jersey. Additionally, he noted that his victory was for all the outlier voters, i.e., morally perverted and twisted individuals who believe they have no representation in Congress. This means, too, that if elected, Bashaw will likely be forwarding and supporting legislation friendly to their interests, not those of the majority of New Jersey voters. Many GOP voters cannot in good conscience vote for their party candidate for US Senate. Nor would they want the liberal Democrat opponent, Andy Kim, to be elected. And so, a major conundrum is set before Republican voters of conscience. Our recommendation is that Trump supporters, Conservatives, and all GOP voters write in the name of Christine Serrano Glassner, a candidate for whom they can in good conscience cast a vote. See Christine's website for information about her. While this might seem like a move analogous to falling on one's sword, there is no living in good conscience with a vote cast for Bashaw. New Jersey voters should REJECT Bashaw. And while this might result in a victory for the Democrat, ask yourself: Would I rather live six years with a clear conscience and a Democrat senator, or a with soured, guilty conscience and a shallow GOP victory? New Jersey voters, REJECT Bashaw. Write in Christine Serrano Glassner. |
